The third day of the festival had to be spent outside the festival area. Some of us still have job responsibilities and meetings to attend, and the festival area was exchanged for the Copenhagen University (which wasn’t too bad; everyone needs a day off from the party).
However, day 4 would compensate for most of FOMO from the night before: it was time for our classic ‘Messed!Up trying out the drink bars’ day – and as usual, we have to deal with the consequences of such a huge task the next day. But we’re living in the present so that was a problem for another day.
Doing the bar round at the festival comes with some responsibilities, especially drinking lots of water, a promise we kept for the first half of the day and then we happened to forget about it. First station of the day was a classic, the Mojito Bus and its wide range of mojito drinks. As it was a very hot summer day, we asked for a pitcher with lots of extra ice and made us small ‘ice shoes’ to keep us chill from the ground up so to speak. Now, the Mojito Bus is usually on my top-three list, but this year was quite a sad start because it was a bit too much rum and tasted like one of those drinks you make when you arrive three hours late to a party and want to catch up quickly. Not a good impression this year (no worries, we tried it later in the evening as well, and then it was amazing).
To get that strong taste of alcohol out of the mouth, we quickly moved on to Bar 64 (while sipping on water). Bar 64 offers three drinks, and we started with the Yuzu Madness followed by Rhubarb (something), and already this early into our round, we probably found a winner. The Yuzu Madness was like meeting your first love in life! It was (again) a base of rum and something tasting like elderflower. Just magically fresh and icy in the summer heat – we actually forgot about the water and had another one. Jsut before the a small break – there was a gig on the horizon – we walked over to the champagne lounge for a drink, and once again we learned that champagne is such a disappointment. Why even bother trying it out? I guess we’re not sophisticated enough for it. Round one was done, and after four stations and five drinks, Yuzu Madness was a winner.
Off to gig with the Danish band BÆNCH and then back to the campsite to cover Camp Vienna United’s annual badminton tournament with the surprising winner Sumse.
Before the second half of the bar round, we had a few burgers and a drink of Samarin to be ready for the last part of the night. This is where our rules – water in between – got lost in the haze. The second round started with a few beers at the Beer Barn, and we ended up with a beer called Hopskilde, which we counted as water, before going back to our drinks. Now, when we’re not at the Roskilde Festival, we’re huge fans of cava. Compared to champagne, cava never disappoints, and it didn’t this time either.
First one out was an Elderflower Spritz, and just like anything with elderflower in it, it’s super tasty, so we had one more before trying out another one, which we, for obvious reasons, forgot the name of – but it was also tasty and had red color. When my colleague, for some reason, suggested a third cava, I had to remind him about our bar tour, and luckily, it wasn’t far to the next one. Gringo Bar was around the corner and we had something with passion fruit in it, very refreshing at this point when you didn’t have any taste left in your mouth. From this point we had some communication problems and went back to our campsite to write down some notes about what we’ve been through, but we got stuck in Dream City and free drinks until late before we got escorted home by friendly people.
Was it worth it? Yes, as always. The winner? Yuzu Madness at Bar 64, and in between we recommend anything from the cava bar.
