‘We’ve never been more in love with the music we make’: Interview with The Used

Every once in a while, I experience a ‘Pinch me’ moment as part of being a music journalist. Music that means so much to you, that is so powerful it transports you back in time, that makes you think of the first time you heard something that deeply touched you. The Used’s Self-Titled and In Love And Death were part of those fundamental handful of records that I played (not streamed!) to death (yes, on CD). I had the incredible opportunity to steal Robbie and Jepha from The Used for a guerrilla style interview at Slam Dunk South. As the band is currently playing shows across Europe before heading to Australia for their 25-anniversary tour, introspection, reflection, and of course, celebrations are in order. The band share the profound impact their shared experience has had on their lives and how important it is to stay in the moment. Grateful for this band, the fact they are better than ever, and the genuine kindness they extended to me during this short and chaotic festival snapshot.

About Sophie Dobschall

German-bred, (ex?-)London-based, not American. Likes high quality banter and video interviews with a dash of photo pit. Feed her loud, sad emo bangers all day every day. Andrew W.K.’s party tips should be anyone’s life philosophy. Does not care that you hate her favorite band, Canadian pop-punk legends Simple Plan. Fight me.
