Way Out West Festival combines veggie heaven with a fantastic line-up

Since Way Out West started in 2007, we’ve been blessed with stars such as Prince, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Florence + The Machine, Neil Young, M.I.A., Alicia Keys, Stormzy, Frank Ocean, Robyn, The xx, Patti Smith, Solange and The Cure, to name just a few (OK, many). This three-day, multi-genre festival is located in the idyllic park of Slottsskogen, the leafy and lush heart of Gothenburg. From here, pretty much everything in the city is within walking distance, and if your legs are tired there’s always trams, buses, and boats to get you where you want in no time.

Way Out West’s unique city-based format taps into Gothenburg’s thriving music scenes, with performances at venues all over the city; rock clubs, nightclubs, churches, theaters, and cultural centers are all used to showcase breaking and more established acts as part of the festivals club concept, Stay Out West. When the last tone is played in Slottsskogen and the area becomes silent, the festival continues in venues all over central Gothenburg. It accelerates and moves on with concerts long into the morning hours under the Stay Out West flag. This is a chance to experience big artists on smaller stages with an atmosphere that feels like nothing else. Some venues are familiar from earlier years, but there is always a wind of change blowing.

And it’s environmentally certified. The festival aim is to respect the park environment and leave a little environmental footprint. The food and drink is mostly organic (in fact, one of the city’s star chefs runs one of the food tents), the power is green, and the waste is recycled.

In this year’s line-up you find some amazing acts like Chappel Roan, Queens of the Stone Age, Fontaines D.C., Iggy Pop, Charli XCX and many more.

About J.N.

Music researcher with an unhealthy passion for music and music festivals. Former studio owner, semi-functional drummer and with a fairly good collection of old analogue synthesizers from the 70's. Indie rock, post rock, electronic/industrial and drum & bass (kind of a mix, yeah?) are usual stuff in my playlists but everything that sounds good will fit in.
