Gothenburg has long been synonymous with heavy music, and on August 22, the city’s metal heritage gets a suitably explosive celebration with **Göteborg Brinner**. Taking over Bananpiren in Frihamnen, the brand-new one-day festival brings together some of the most formidable names in Swedish and international metal for a full day of riffs, roaring vocals and uncompromising live intensity.

Created by Gothenburg metal giants In Flames, Göteborg Brinner is both a festival debut and a homecoming. The setting could hardly be more appropriate: Frihamnen is deeply rooted in Gothenburg’s metal history and previously hosted Metaltown, as well as In Flames’ legendary 2010 hometown show. Now, more than a decade later, metal returns to the harbour.

The lineup reflects the breadth and history of the Gothenburg scene. In Flames headline a bill featuring fellow local heavyweights Dark Tranquillity and Avatar, alongside Swedish hardcore veterans Raised Fist. The second stage adds extreme-metal firepower from Napalm Death and Gaerea, as well as Thrown and Múr.

With the industrial harbour surroundings providing the backdrop, Göteborg Brinner promises to be more than just another festival date. It is a celebration of the sound that put Gothenburg on the global metal map – and a chance to experience that legacy at full volume, in the city where it began.
