Messed!Up
Formed in Salisbury in late 2021, Carsick have rapidly established themselves as one of the UK’s most unruly and entertaining young bands. Built around brothers Joe Richardson (vocals/guitar) and Jack Richardson (guitar), alongside Jack Hardiman (bass) and Tom Armstrong (drums), the quartet emerged from the local music scene with a sound that refuses to sit comfortably in any single genre.
Carsick combine the urgency of post-punk with indie rock, punk, electronic music and touches of hip-hop, drawing inspiration from artists such as Blur, The Streets, Jamie T and Slaves. Their songs frequently turn everyday experiences into sharp, humorous observations, particularly the excesses, frustrations and absurdities of British pub and nightlife culture. Rather than romanticising youth, Carsick embrace its messier side: drinking, bad decisions, relationships, small-town boredom and the desire to escape it all.
Their reputation, however, has been built as much onstage as in the studio. From their first show at Southampton’s Joiners in November 2021, Carsick developed a reputation for chaotic, unpredictable performances, earning them local recognition and opening slots alongside established alternative acts. In 2022, they won both Best Band and Best Live Act at the Salisbury Music Awards, underlining their importance to the city’s growing music community.
The band’s breakthrough continued with appearances at festivals including Truck, 2000 Trees and Reading & Leeds, while their music attracted support from BBC Radio figures including Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson and Gemma Bradley, as well as praise from Iggy Pop. Their debut EP, Drunk Hymns, arrived in 2023 via Alcopop! Records, followed by the acclaimed Tough Luck in 2025.
Today, Carsick stand at the intersection of indie, punk and post-punk: loud, irreverent and deliberately chaotic, with an increasingly international following and a live reputation that promises considerably more trouble than a quiet night at the pub.
In November, they cross the canal for three gigs in Germany!
