Sepultura tour Germany and stop off at Turbinenhalle in Oberhausen

Sepultura stand as one of the most influential metal bands ever to emerge from South America, but the story of the Brazilian pioneers has entered its final chapter over the last five years. Formed in 1984 in Belo Horizonte, Sepultura spent decades reshaping heavy music through a groundbreaking blend of thrash metal, death metal, groove metal, hardcore, and Brazilian musical influences. While their classic albums Beneath the Remains, Arise, Chaos A.D., and Roots cemented their legacy, the period from 2021 onward has been defined by adaptation, celebration, and farewell.

In 2021, as the music industry continued to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, Sepultura released SepulQuarta, a collaborative project that grew out of the band’s popular online quarantine sessions. The album featured performances with members of bands such as Megadeth, Testament, Anthrax, System of a Down, Trivium, and Sacred Reich, demonstrating the respect Sepultura commands across the global metal community.

The band spent much of the following years touring in support of their acclaimed 2020 album Quadra, which became their most successful release in decades and reinforced the creative strength of the lineup featuring vocalist Derrick Green, guitarist Andreas Kisser, bassist Paulo Jr., and drummer Eloy Casagrande.

A major turning point arrived in late 2023 when Sepultura announced that they would celebrate their 40th anniversary with a worldwide farewell tour titled Celebrating Life Through Death. Rather than fading away quietly, the band chose to spend several years performing around the world one final time, paying tribute to four decades of music and cultural impact. Andreas Kisser explained that surviving the pandemic and personal losses had helped shape the decision to bring the band’s journey to a planned conclusion.

Another significant change came in early 2024 when drummer Eloy Casagrande departed the band. He was replaced by Greyson Nekrutman, who joined Sepultura for the farewell tour and became part of the group’s final recording lineup.

Throughout 2024, 2025, and 2026, Sepultura continued their farewell trek across multiple continents, drawing large audiences eager to celebrate one of metal’s most enduring acts. The tour has included performances across Europe, North America, Latin America, and major international festivals. The band has confirmed that 2026 will mark the end of their touring career, with final shows scheduled in Europe and Brazil.

In April 2026, Sepultura released The Cloud of Unknowing, a four-track EP that serves as the band’s final studio recording. It captures the closing moments of a career that helped transform extreme metal from an underground movement into a global force.

On 23 June, they pop by Turbinenhalle in Oberhausen while doing the festival circuit in Europe – you don’t want to miss out on that!

About J.N.

Music researcher with an unhealthy passion for music and music festivals. Former studio owner, semi-functional drummer and with a fairly good collection of old analogue synthesizers from the 70's. Indie rock, post rock, electronic/industrial and drum & bass (kind of a mix, yeah?) are usual stuff in my playlists but everything that sounds good will fit in.
