Underoath’s Spencer Chamberlain talks Experiencing Music Physically, Songwriting Dynamics, and Getting Married

With their latest record, The Place After This One‪ Underoath have begun a new chapter for the band. Having lived through some of the toughest times imaginable, vocalists Spencer and Aaron have approached songwriting for this album from a retrospective, looking back at those turbulent two decades.

Ahead of their show with ‪LANDMVRKS‬, Messed!Up Sophie got to talk to Spencer about the importance of experiencing music physically vs digitally, and how they wrote for the album. They also dive into the subject of self-love and how he personally found his path to recovery from drug addiction. Sophie also tries to expose an easter egg (there’s a mission, UØ fans!!) and Spencer lets us in on what music played at his recent wedding!

About Sophie Dobschall

German-bred, (ex?-)London-based, not American. Likes high quality banter and video interviews with a dash of photo pit. Feed her loud, sad emo bangers all day every day. Andrew W.K.’s party tips should be anyone’s life philosophy. Does not care that you hate her favorite band, Canadian pop-punk legends Simple Plan. Fight me.
