Video premiere: Paul Bäcklin – “The Highway”

Born in ’89 and raised in Gothenburg, Sweden. Father was a journalist and author who suffered from Pick’s disease while editing his first novel for print. Mother is a retired nurse.

Paul has been playing music from the age of 11 and wrote his first song by painting pictures in a book he made from stapled-together papers. Influenced by his father’s driving music, his vinyl/CD collection, and (maybe most of all) a playlist his brother made in WinAmp including Cake, Paul Simon, Cornelis Vreesvijk, Dusty Springfield, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Otis Redding, Zeppelin, Nirvana and soo much more, which he listened to while playing Diablo II, he started writing his own music.

Lately, he’s been inspired by Courtney Barnett, Brittany Howard, Adrianne Lenker, Bill Withers, David Lynch, Blake Mills, Damien Jurado, Cesaria Evora, Phoebe Bridgers, Kurt Vile, Justin Vernon, NRBQ etc. – music that has been used as references in his own songs.

Today, he premieres his new video “The Highway”, and we can’t wait for a full album to follow up this song.

About J.N.

Music researcher with an unhealthy passion for music and music festivals. Former studio owner, semi-functional drummer and with a fairly good collection of old analogue synthesizers from the 70's. Indie rock, post rock, electronic/industrial and drum & bass (kind of a mix, yeah?) are usual stuff in my playlists but everything that sounds good will fit in.
