MANICS: Swirling synths and pounding drum machines coated in retro new wave

J.N. July 11, 2019

Many of the Messed!Up’s are aold enough to remember the electronic sound of the eighties. Hell, even a few of us collect analog gear of the seventies and the eighties! Already when San Francisco two-piece MANICS “Git Wit Dis” in 2013 we put them on high rotation because of the French House sound, adding them to a long fav list of bands as Justice, Sebastian and Digitalism. Much have changed since then and they’ve evolved int he direction of indie dance or what some people would call indietronica (don’t talk genres with us, we simply don’t know any), and there’s loads of New Order references today but with a special electro-funk twist on it.

Earlier this year they released the amazing EP “Binary” full of analog knob-twiddling and we really would love to see a full-length from the guys. Why not release it on your own label POPGANG Records?

About The Author

Music researcher with an unhealthy passion for music and music festivals. Former studio owner, semi-functional drummer and with a fairly good collection of old analogue synthesizers from the 70's. Indie rock, post rock, electronic/industrial and drum & bass (kind of a mix, yeah?) are usual stuff in my playlists but everything that sounds good will fit in.
